It’s unclear how DEI is needed or even functions within the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), but if there’s a will, Stephen Bowens will find a way.
On his since-deleted LinkedIn profile, he describes himself as the Senior Equity Advisor for ORR, as well as HHS and the Administration for Children and Families. His job is to “strategically advise the Director and spearhead the development of intentional and transformative programmatic and policy initiatives.”
Exactly how would equity factor into refugee resettlement? Is he in charge of making sure refugees are equitably disbursed nationwide?
On his now-deleted LinkedIn profile, Stephen Bowens lists Janice Gassam Asare as one of his interests.
As are claims to “help workplaces become anti-racist” and recently led then-Senator JD Vance to investigate if her business, BWG Business Solutions, receives taxpayer funding. She’s the author of several racist books, including Decentering Whiteness in the Workplace and The Pink Elephant: A Practical Guide to Creating an Anti-Racist Organization, but it was her article about “white-centering” in Forbes that got Vance’s attention.
The fact that Asare is one of the top voices Bowens is interested in is radical and scary.
