Dr. Shakira Nelson administers the NIGMS’ Diversity Supplement Program, which, on the now deleted website, states that, “Principal Investigators (PIs) of NIGMS research grants may request supplemental funds to enhance the diversity of the research workforce. The Diversity Supplements Program (DSP) is designed to facilitate the recruitment and training of promising scientists from diverse backgrounds.”
To put it a different way, NIH will give researchers a DEI bonus. Hopefully, this program was deleted along with its website.
Dr. Shakira was “passionate about diversifying workforce development” and “achieving equity” until President Trump eliminated DEI offices from the federal government. Then, her passions suddenly pivoted to things less diverse and equitable.
