Holistic Heat Equity

During a CDC presentation on “Heat and Health Equity,” Ayana Perkins, who introduced herself as “an African-American woman with long locks wearing a white jacket. My pronouns are she/her,” discussed ways the government can make heat more equitable.

She claims we focus too much on direct exposure and the government needs to focus on other issues when planning for heat resilience. What else is important for the government to consider? Opportunity for lifelong learning, wealth, and sense of belonging. These things will keep people warm at night.

Very often we focus on… our direct exposure in our natural world. …when planning for heat resilience, we must ask “Do all communities have access to the other domains, such as their basic needs for health and safety? Do we all have humane housing, meaningful work, and wealth, an opportunity for lifelong learning, reliable transportation?” And right therein the middle is the most important part. How do we draw on belonging and civic muscles?

Anti-Conservative in the CDC

Ayana Perkins spends the money she earns working as a Chief Health Equity Officer at the CDC to oppose conservatives.

Perkins donated to usual suspects as a Georgian: Kamala Harris, Jon Ossoff, ActBlue, and Georgia Federal Elections Committee. However, she also donated to MoveOn.org, an organization that organized protests throughout Trump’s first term, campaigned for Trump’s impeachment, and campaigns for radical progressive candidates.

She also donated to Forward Blue, a group to register emerging-age Democrats to vote and “rebuild democratic power.”

Perkins doesn’t just support liberal candidates, she opposes anything conservative. Activists like Perkins can’t be trusted in the Trump administration.
