As OpenSecrets notes, "Only a tiny fraction of Americans actually give campaign contributions to political candidates, parties or PACs. Just 0.97% of the United States population contributed more than two hundred dollars to federal candidates, PACs, parties, and outside groups [last cycle]"  This is the reason campaign contributions are such an instructive tool in analyzing civil servants, because only the most avid partisans - less than one percent - write a check to a candidate.

Pushing Equity into US Public Health

In her congressional testimony, Karen Hacker wrote that she prioritizes pushing a left-wing diversity agenda into the CDC, valuing diversity over people's actual merits.

“Diverse public health workforce: A robust workforce at the federal, state, and local levels is essential to efficiently and effectively deliver services to meet the public health needs in communities across the United States and be ready to respond to emergencies. The public health workforce supports the health of all Americans by investigating outbreaks, implementing chronic disease prevention programs, sampling wastewater, helping communities address mental health and substance use, testing laboratory samples, and more. The infrastructure needs in health departments are substantial—many public health agencies lack resources to support foundational capacities such as operations, communications, and emergency preparedness, which are the building blocks of any response. To be ready for any biothreat, the public health system in the United States requires a robust and nimble public health infrastructure and a skilled public health workforce ready to respond to emergencies.
CDC is building a diverse workforce at every level and every point of entry that reflects the sectors and communities we serve. Our work focuses on hiring, training, and retaining public health workers to meet the unique needs of each community.”

Pushing HPV Vaccines on Pre Teens

During her tenure as director of the Allegheny County Health Department, Karen Hacker aggressively pushed for an HPV vaccine mandate on preteens in 2016, showing a blatant disregard for parental rights and individual choice.

“This vaccination, which is quite well-researched and has been around for quite a bit of time, is the only vaccination we have to prevent cancer,” said department director Karen Hacker. The department doesn’t currently have hard numbers on how many young people in the county are currently receiving the three-shot vaccination, but Hacker said it is below 50 percent. The department will begin collecting data on vaccination rates from school nurses during the upcoming school year.”
“Hacker said some parents are uncomfortable with the idea of getting their pre-teen children vaccinated for a sexually transmitted infection. “I think there are often people who feel like ‘Why should I get my child vaccinated before they have sex? What’s the real risk?’” she said. “I think there have been concerns about the efficacy of vaccinations in general. ”Hacker said the department will bring the results of the public hearing to the board of health at their next meeting in July, which may instruct the department to develop an HPV vaccination policy upon which they could vote.”
